PIRG Energy Service Corps is a joint project of the U.S. PIRG Education Fund and AmeriCorps that works to improve energy efficiency. This year, we are enrolling graduating college students to join our program and work to tackle one of the most pressing environmental issues in the United States: energy efficiency.

We organize service projects that bring together the community, educate local youth in classrooms about the importance of environmental stewardship, and provide our community members with energy assessments and home weatherization.

We are currently enrolling graduates as AmeriCorps members with PIRG Energy Service Corps. PIRG Energy Service Corps AmeriCorps members serve a 9 month term based on a college campus, working to educate and engage the campus and community around energy efficiency, including overseeing an internship program.

We know that students have played a role in all movements to create a better world. AmeriCorps members will recruit and train students to be activists and active citizens. PIRG Energy Service Corps terms of service are rigorous, often 50-60 hours a week. While it's tough work that involves long hours, a PIRG Energy Service Corps term of service is extremely rewarding and offers the chance to make direct change in our communities around one of today's most pressing issues.

Benefits:

• $12,100 living allowance.
• $5,350 education award after successful completion of the program, including no less than 1700 hours of service.  The education award can be used to pay off loans or for future schooling. The award is good for up to 7 years.
• Health care is provided.
• Loan forbearance – Most, if not all, of your loans will be deferred and AmeriCorps will pay the interest.
• 2 weeks paid vacation.
