CoPIRG's Energy Service Corps sponsored a sustainability fair, co-hosted by the Office of Sustainability, to honor National Campus Sustainability Day on October 26th, 2011. The fair featured several on and off-campus groups including the Catamount Institute, SunShare, UCCS Restoration Club, and UCCS Office of Sustainability. In the spirit of good fun (along with education) students played Energy Jeopardy, Spin the Energy Wheel, and an organic vs inorganic taste test of carrots and apples! To show their support Old Chicago, Jimmy John Subs, Arabica Cafe, and Sunflower Markets provided prizes for the games.

On October 21st, 2011 CoPIRG's Energy Service Corps administered two workshops, in conjuction with the CSTEM Girls Workshops for over 300 middle school girls that bussed out to UCCS for a day of fun and learning! One of the Energy Service Corps workshops focused on solar energy, where dozens of middle school girls constructed solar powered cars. The other focused on wind energy, where the girls constructed wind turbines and tested them to see who's worked best! A volunteer for the Energy Service Corps used the astronaut's space suit from one of the workshops to usher all 300 girls into the gymnasium in the morning.

UCCS hosted the Cool Science Fair on October 15th, 2011 where over 100 community groups brought scientific toys and gadgets to teach children of all ages! CoPIRG"s Energy Service Corps used a Kill-A-Watt to physically show children the difference in wattage and temperature between a CFL and an incandescent light bulb. They also measured "vampire electronics" and everyday household appliances to demonstrate how much energy things use, and how much energy can be wasted if appliances are left plugged in.
